Limited Space Requires a Compact Compactor

Mall operator Simon DeBartolo Group, Indianapolis, is testing a new stationary waste compactor for use in locations with limited space. The unit, 70-in. long, takes up less space than a conventional stationary unit compactor. Manufactured by Glosser Co., the 2 Yard Plus compactor was built at the request of Waste Management, Oakbrook, Ill., which hopes to install the equipment in malls where, owing to space considerations, it now uses self-contained units.

"Disposal costs are higher with a self-contained compactor because the entire unit must be taken to the landfill and later returned to the site," explains a spokesperson for Glosser Co., McKeesport, Pa. "But with a stationary compactor, the receiving container can be switched when full for empty containers."

The Glosser unit, has the largest clear-top opening for a two-yard compactor, measuring 46-in. by 56-in. across and one of the highest forces in the industry.

"This allows the customer larger charging capacity and denser loads," adds the Glosser spokesperson.
